SMALL GRANTS FUND 2010 INFO

West Broadway Development Corporation, in partnership with Neighbourhoods Alive, Province of Manitoba has established this Small Grants Fund available to local groups and organizations in the West Broadway Neighbourhood.

What is the Small Grants Fund?
The purpose of the Small Grants Fund is to support local community based groups and organizations to undertake small projects that enhance the strength and cohesion of the community, and that emphasize community building/ community connecting activities. Examples of eligible projects would include community clean-ups, community gardens, local newsletters, cultural programs, communication and networking activities, block parties, community celebrations and programs for children and youth.

Who can Apply?
The grants are available to local groups and organizations within West Broadway, defined by: Osborne Street to the East, Maryland to the West, Portage Avenue to the North and Organizations who reside outside these areas, but provide service within these communities may also apply.

Size of Grants:
Local organizations can apply for up to $5,000 per year.

Successful small grants will:

  • enhance the strength and cohesion of the community
  • emphasize community building / connecting activities
  • have identified support of local residents
  • be sponsored by local groups (not individuals)
  • not be used for capital improvements to private property unless the property has been made available, free of charge, for community use and the improvements relate to the proposed community use
  • projects involving use of private or public property should have the written permission of the owners/ municipality
  • take place within the West Broadway neighbourhood

Please note honouraria for facilitators may be eligible, while payments of stipends to participants is not eligible

Who will decide?
The West Broadway Development Corporation Board of Directors Small Grants Committee will work with WBDC staff to review small grants proposals and make recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval. The committee meets regularly and allocates funds based upon the needs of the community and the track record of the sponsoring organization or group.

Intakes:

There are four intake dates for 2010 applications:

  • Monday January 18th              groups informed by February 12th
  • Monday March 1st                     groups informed by April 16th
  • Tuesday June 1st                      groups informed by July 12th
  • Wednesday September 1st       groups informed by October 12th

Evaluation:

Each grant recipient is required to complete a short evaluation form after the project is completed.
