Urban Agriculture

Klinic site – 545 Broadway

one huge 3,400 ft2 plot, 7+ farmers and seed savers

In 2010 this site is being managed by a group of local residents – the Seventh Generation Seed Savers. Along with community volunteers and eager learners, this group of farmers plans to create a “Handing on Living Legacies” urban farming and seed saving project. More details to come…

In the summers of 2008 and 2009, the Good Food Club, WBDC, and Klinic partnered with the Landless Farmers Collective to transform the lot adjacent to the Klinic building into an urban agriculture plot. Originally, there were nine raised garden beds at the site which have since been moved to Boulder Park. Now, organic farming is taking place directly in the ground!

Much work and love has gone into developing the soil. Food production has been a tremendous success including many wheelbarrows of produceĀ  – approximately 1.5 tonnes of food – grown for Agape Table, Broadway Neighbourhood Centre and the Good Food Club.

Water is accessed at the Klinic tap and a rain barrel supplied by WBDC.

This is the location of the Veggie Van Market: Thursdays, July to mid-September from 4:30-6:30 pm.
